Flashcards

Each piece in the Flashcards body of work is a meditation on being an artist and a parent.

It’s allowed me to process seeing my daughter’s ever-increasing growth while at the same time seeing my own aging process. It’s about memory, recollection, the learning process and the transition from childhood to adulthood. It's also about gaining and losing memories. I wonder if, and when, the tables will turn and my daughter will consider using flashcards with me. This work allows me to show up as an artist intuitively mark-making while working with index cards and paint, all familiar and honest materials to me. It investigates growth and decline, a natural life cycle.

This body of work inspires others to connect with the human experience of memory issues, aging, institutional learning, and raising children.

All pieces in the Flashcard series are original gouache, acrylic on flashcards, and their size is 8” x 6” x 1 ⅜” with frame included.
